The media is spending a lot of time talking about the possibility of Brett Kavanaugh helping to get Roe vs. Wade overturned. I’m far more concerned that Donald Trump is using Mr. Kavanaugh as a tool to dismantle Robert Mueller’s investigation. Donald Trump has a great deal of wrongdoing he wants covered up. The political left is making a political mistake calling for the extinction of ICE. ICE is doing what Donald Trump’s administration has ordered them to do. The demonstrators should focus on Donald Trump’s role in causing children and babies to be separated from their parents. By calling for the extinction of ICE they are allowing Trump to claim that they want to end all immigration law enforcement. One of the things we could hope for is the possibility that a few Republican senators might be persuaded to hold up ANY Trump nomination as a protest against his extremely cruel policy of separating children from their parents and failing to comply with a court order to end this problem. Perhaps we should write to Senator Susan Collins of Maine and the female senator from Alaska.

Jeanne, just re-read your predictions from a scan on Mueller that was done about one year ago. Do you have any updates about these predictionssince since some some things can change? Same for your post, about one year ago, about how the Trump presidency will end ?

Pat, I will look into it. I agree with Kelly that Kavanaugh is likely to empower Trump to fire Mueller. That is the biggest problem with Kavanaugh. BTW, the White House released Kavanaugh’s financial disclosures and it seems that the man racked up huge credit card debt buying tens of thousands of dollars in baseball cards. So he has a baseball obsession that brings him to near bankruptcy. It’s a bit of a departure from the dignity and mental stability of the highest jurists in the land. I doubt that man would have any qualms giving Trump what he wants.

Just announced that the next Supreme Court pick will be Kavanaugh. However, sources say he will be hard to confirm. What will likely happen?

I heard that we are near the end of the drain. If confirmed, this will be it.

Paige 07/10/2018 at 3:51 am - Reply

“Near the end of the drain” I’m curious what you mean by that? I’m not sure if I should interpret that positively or not. I’m not neccssarily intuitive, but I do believe that bad and evil people don’t last long. They can’t. The confirmation process for this is going to be hell. I think should it go through- then many states will turn inward and make their own laws regarding certain things or find work around a. Particrualy “blue” states.

Didactical models

If we look at didactical models used within education we can distinguish 3 main models: • Behaviourism. • Cognitivism. • Constructivism. At these days a lot of times the models are integrated in the way we look at (e-)learning. First let's describe the three main models in a brief way.

A rat in the Skinner-box

This model based by Skinner is based on the assumption that learning is a function of change with stimuli and responses. Regarding this model it is not relevant to know the process of learning is happening within the brain because the focus is on the results of learning, not the process itself. A strong element of behaviourism is positive and negative feedback, which can condition the learner (reinforcement). A result of this attitude of learning is the de-contextualizing of learning content. Knowledge is offered in a fragmentised way. In a behaviouristic environment didactical aspects like knowledge tests, homework and highly structured learning are common.

Behaviourism can be easily combined with computer aided learning. The first e-Learning lessons were mostly labelled as 'Drill-and-practice'. The lessons are build up on practising.

From 1985 there was a national program for elementary schools in The Netherlands. This plan, called "Informatica Stimulatie plan", is implemented by a new institution. This 'Centre for Education and Information technology' developed e-Learning modules, trained teachers, evaluated e-Learning content and tried to get the participation of the corporate market.

All kind of courseware was created. One of the products was a program where kids were trained in an individual way to practice maths. It was a simple, powerful and straightforward programmed instruction approach with a question and answer method. Kids had to typ the answers. An example:

Your brain is like a computer

This model based on the idea that the process of learning is comparable with the way a computer is working. Cognitivists are using words like short term memory, long term memory and stimuli.

Cognitivism is about:

The focus is on the way we are learning, not only at the outcome of the learning process. Techniques like mind mapping are used to anchor the information.

In a course on management skills at a small IT company in Spain there was an enthusiastic group of 12 learners trying to become managers. These management trainees just finished university. The course existed of different phases and different didactical activities:

Building your knowledge

This model based by Bruner and Piaget, says that learning is a very active process.

The constructivist (or cognitive-developmental) stream "is based on the idea that the dialectic or interactionist process of development and learning through the student's active construction should be facilitated and promoted by adults" (DeVries et al., 2002)

Learners construct new ideas, structures, models and concepts and connect them to their prior knowledge and mental models. Actual experiences are important for the learning process. Not only the content is important but also context is essential for meaningful learning. These instructional experiences must be structured so that learners can easily adapt the information. The learner plays an active role and learning is goal-oriented.

In recent decades, constructivist theorists have extended the traditional focus on individual learning to address collaborative and social dimensions of learning. It is possible to see (as it is called) as a bringing together of aspects of the work of Piaget with that of Bruner and Vygotsky (Wood, 1998).

In Poland there was a university and one of the courses they offered was on intercultural communications. They learnt how to values of different cultures and the special expectations of people within the different cultures. The course existed of different activities:

Unlike most modern recordings, the full range of volume changes was left intact. From stunning loudness to gentle quietness, one of the hallmarks of progressive music is the extreme use of volume, and it is rare to hear that range on records today.

In the fall of 1972, the musicianship, writing and singing of Yes were inarguably strong and exciting—as you’ll hear in these seven full concerts.

PROGENY ’72

Here are his answers:

Steven Sullivan Where were the Progeny tapes found? The tapes were in the WMG vault.

Dan Trotta Who came up with the name PROGENY and why? I do like the name – just asking – thank you!!! The band came up with the title. Actually, they couldn’t decide between “Progeny” or “Seven Shows From Seventy-Two” so both were used!

Mirko Bernard Why seven shows? It seems today most people want more (see the other questions for shows people want released even beyond this). We figured that this was a peak period for YES in some ways, and if we’d cut it down to 2 shows, people would ask to have the rest. No show was clearly the winner, and all had some great moments and instances of brilliance. Hence, there is also the 2-disc option for those who don’t like YES as intensely.

We’ve issued seven shows: There were actually eight recorded for the live album project in 1972. The first was in Hartford, a poor recording, plagued by equipment problems, a non-responsive crowd, and the weakest performance of the set. We cut that one and seven ought to be enough for anyone.

Monte Montemayor What kind of sound can we expect Brian? Were these Soundboard tapes mixed on this set of shows?? As much as we all love Yessongs, it’s definitely not the best live recording ever captured. Hopefully Progeny helps address that. As you likely know, soundboard tapes are quick rough mixes of a live show, done on the fly during the event – better than audience bootlegs but far from a proper recording. These boxset tapes are true professional multitrack remote-truck recordings, done for an intended YES live album (which became Yessongs .)
